SUPPORTING AXBRIDGE & WEDMORE DOCTORS

Wedmore & Axbridge Community Health Fund (‘the Fund’) is a charity which operates across Wedmore, Axbridge and the surrounding area with the purpose of improving the health and well-being of people in the area.

It was initially set up in 1988 to raise money to provide equipment and services to benefit patients of the Axbridge and Wedmore Medical Practice. Since then, it has developed a wider remit to additionally support community groups and individuals.
The Fund became a charity registered with the Charity Commission in 2022 (registration number 1201248). The fund changed to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2022 from an ordinary charity because it gives better protection to the Trustees after the large donation from the Wedmore Ambulance Trust.
Where there is a need, the Fund can provide:
-
Support to individuals accessing non-NHS services or supports e.g. support for people with dementia to attend day activities.
-
Support for community groups providing health and wellbeing -related activities e.g. a group for people living with dementia.
-
Health-related equipment the NHS cannot fund e.g. community defibrillators.
-
Equipment for the GP surgery to help the Practice team to provide a better service e.g. the provision of specialist eye examination equipment.
Referrals to the Fund can be made (with the person’s consent in the case of individuals) by local health and care professionals, including GPs, Health Facilitators, Health Coaches, Nurses or community groups. The Trustees assess each request and allocate funds if appropriate.
Any donations to the Fund are very gratefully received and go to benefit health and wellbeing in the local community.
